Building/Capital Committee
TO BE THE MAIN TEAM OF THE BOARD TO GIVE OVERSIGHT TO THE BUILDING IMPROVEMENT AND CAPITAL BUDGET OF THE CHURCH
Personnel: At least two members of the board, including one as chair of building/capital, and one to three others from the church as determined by the board; and these ex-officio members: senior pastor and chair of the board, both of whom are voting members of all church committees. Usually the main staff person responsible for the building issues sits in for input.
Report to: the main board of the church.
General duties:
Approve the arrangement for constant building care and maintenance; and approve major purchases of capital investments. Include a program for setting funds aside for constant building needs so that do not come at one time. (For instance, putting ⅛ of carpet needs away each year for carpet that must be replaced every eight years.)
Be initiators of needed building projects and improvements. Help to appoint and recruit the best members of the capital campaign committee when that is needed.
Guard and give guidance to the financial office and the board for the setting of the capital budget portion of the church budget each year. Give advice as needed to the main building point person on staff, though he reports to the staff leadership, not to a committee.
Meetings: Monthly or as needed as set by the chair and pastor.
